Approaching: From Elizabethton -
Starting at junction Broad Street and Hwy 19E follow Hwy 91 go approx. 7 miles east past the Elizabethton Airport. Turn right onto Blue Springs Rd. Blue Springs Rd makes a sharp left turn. Do not turn. Continue straight ahead on to Steel Bridge Rd. Continue on Steel Bridge Rd turning right, over the bridge and continue onto Wilbur Dam Rd. Continue straight along the river on Horseshoe Dam Rd. / Wilbur Dam Rd. You will pass the Wilbur Dam and continue, crossing the river. Wilbur Dam recreation area will be to the right. Continuing on Wilbur Dam Rd. up the hill you will come to the Watauga Dam area. You will cross the Appalachian Trail at the top of the hill. At the end of the road is a visitor center and overlook.
Approaching from Watauga Lake - Take Hwy 67/321 west to Hampton. Turn right and continue on Hwy67/321 at the Shell station. Travel 1.8 miles and trun right onto Siam Rd./Hwy 2376. Travel 5.4 miles, turn right onto Wilbur Dam Rd. and continue. You will pass the Wilbur Dam and continue, crossing the river. Wilbur Dam recreation area will be to the right. Continuing on Wilbur Dam Rd. up the hill you will come to the Watauga Dam area. You will cross the Appalachian Trail at the top of the hill. At the end of the road is a visitor center and overlook.
